Welcome to my Home Page
Welcome to my online gallery of drawing, photography and painting. Some drawings and photography are mounted, framed and ready to hang, and others are a mixture of unframed/unmounted. All canvases are wrapped and stretched on wood.
My work over the last year has been investigating the classical Myth of Danae. This story has been represented visually by many male artists from Titian, Rembrandt to Klimt. In the history of art, the female nude has little to do with images of particular women's bodies and more often meant to be universal metaphors for masculine desire, creativity and culture. My aim is to re-present these ideas, from a female perspective, and by using my own body and hair as a starting point for the works.
Steeped in myth, history & the natural world I am exploring my physical & emotional relationship of these themes as both subject & voyeur. I do not want to portray the mythical tale of Danae, I have totally inhabited her. My hair can barely conceal the bruising on the skin, the breast. It is the energy of the hair (used as the symbol of fertility and strength), the space in between the breast (the skin) and the pitted and ravaged surfaces that is my focus.
