Negotiating Identity, Myth and Memory

"... I trace a body of women's writing that keeps faith with its original inspiration while discovering women's physical, emotional, and intellectual experience at the heart of myth: in the ambiguous relationships of female figure and natural landscape, movement and stasis, aversion and desire"

Rowena Fowler - Myth & Poetry, Laughing With Medusa (Classical Myth and Feminist Thought)

Melissa Budasz’s work negotiates identity, myth and memory. Using her body and hair as the starting point; photography, drawing, assemblage and painting are the tools used to detail the relationship between acquired knowledge and the autobiographical and pictorial significance that metaphorically references the landscape. Steeped in myth, history & the natural world she is exploring her physical & emotional relationship of these themes as both subject & voyeur.

Melissa Budasz is a visual artist, curator and Chair of South London Women Artists (SLWA) - www.southlondonwomenartists.co.uk
